KIEV, Aug. 14 (Xinhua) -- The special monitoring mission (SMM) of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) plans to expand its presence in the conflict-stricken area in eastern Ukraine, local media reported on Tuesday.

The Ukrainian government-run Ukrinform news agency said that the SMM has identified several new locations for its work in Donetsk and Lugansk regions and has been waiting for security guarantees to establish the offices.

The OSCE sent its special observer mission to Ukraine in March 2014, following a request by the Ukrainian government.

Currently, more than 700 unarmed OSCE observers from 44 countries are deployed in the East European country, with around 600 of them monitoring the ceasefire between government troops and pro-independence insurgents in Donetsk and Lugansk regions.
