TOKYO, Aug. 15 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks retreated Wednesday morning as tensions between Turkey and the United States heightened with the U.S. trying to use a jailed American pastor as economic leverage.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 85.18 points, or 0.38 percent, from Tuesday to 22,270.90.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 7.32 points, or 0.43 percent, to 1,703.63.

Oil and coal product, iron and steel, and pulp and paper-linked issues comprised those that declined the most by the morning break.
