Greenhouse gas emissions in Norway decline in 2017

OSLO, Aug. 15 (Xinhua) -- Emissions of greenhouse gases in Norway fell by 1.7 percent in 2017 while the total emissions were 2.4 percent above 1990 levels, the country's statistics bureau said on Wednesday.

The total emissions last year were 52.4 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent and it is precisely carbon dioxide that constituted the majority of the emissions, Statistics Norway said in a report.

A total of 43.3 million tonnes of carbon dioxide were released in Norway in the year, according to the report.

Oil and gas extraction was the largest source of emissions to the air with 14.7 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent, or 28 percent of the total emissions.

Manufacturing industries and mining were the second largest sources of greenhouse gas emissions last year with 12.3 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent, or 23 percent of the total emissions.
