BUDAPEST, Aug. 15 (Xinhua) -- Hungary's Sziget festival broke its 2016 record with a turnout of 565,000 people in one week, the organizers announced here on Wednesday.

"Sziget is a truly unique global festival. We are so proud to have seen 565,000 people from all over the world join us here in the heart of Budapest," Tamas Kadar, the CEO of the popular music festival declared in a statement.

The previous turnout record for the festival had been registered in 2016, with 496,000 visitors.

Sziget this year has improved its commitment to reducing environmental impact, according to the organizers.

The festival this year adopted a reusable cup system to reduce rubbish on site, and eco-camping, recycling centers as well as an anti-plastic straw program called "Don't Suck".

The Sziget festival, which welcomed its 9 millionth visitor, a Swiss girl, on Tuesday, will return in 2019.
