HANOI, Aug. 16 (Xinhua) -- The Vietnamese government has agreed with the Education Ministry's proposal on exempting preschoolers and students of state-funded junior high schools from tuition fees, according to a resolution of the cabinet meeting in July posted on the government portal on Thursday.

Students of private schools, especially those in poor or remote areas, will receive tuition-related assistance from the state.

Also according to the resolution, the Ministry of Education and Training is supposed to coordinate with the Ministry of Finance and cities and provinces nationwide to offer financial support for implementation of the tuition fee exemption policy in a suitable roadmap.

Currently only primary school students are exempted from tuition fees. If the exemption is extended to preschoolers and junior high school students (from the sixth to the ninth grade), over five million children will benefit from the policy, according to local online newspaper VnExpress.

The tuition fee exemption will be part of a draft law on education which is scheduled to be submitted in October to Vietnam's top legislature for consideration.
