PARIS, Aug. 16 (Xinhua) -- French President Emmanuel Macron on Thursday told his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan over phone conversation that Paris remained committed to cement bilateral economic ties and ensure Turkey's economic stability amid lira crisis.

During the call, Macron "recalled the strong economic and trade links between the European Union and Turkey and underlined his commitment to a stable and prosperous Turkey," his office said.

"He assured President Erdogan of France's support in this regard," the Elysee added in a press release.

Turkish lira plunged last week before recovering some of its losses in recent days amid escalating row with the United States, its NATO ally, over its detention of U.S. pastor Andrew Brunson over charges of terrorism and involvement in a Turkish failed coup in 2016.
