5.3-magnitude quake hits Italy: USGS

ROME, Aug. 16 (Xinhua) -- An earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale jolted Palata in central Italy on Thursday evening, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

The epicenter, with a depth of 12.34 km, was initially determined to be at 41.8554 degrees north latitude and 14.8421 degrees east longitude.
