Uganda’s KCCA FC defeat Botswana’s Township Rollers 1-0 in Champions League tie

KAMPALA, Aug. 18 (Xinhua) -- Uganda’s KCCA FC have defeated visiting Township Rollers FC 1-0 in a Group A game of the CAF Champions League played on Saturday.

In front of a small crowd at Namboole National Stadium, the home side dominated play but failed to score several goals.

After several missed chances by Allan Okello and Saddam Ibrahim Juma, young striker Patrick Henry Kaddu scored the lone goal after 83 minutes. Juma took the free kick before the Township Rollers FC defenders fumbled and Kaddu got space to score.

KCCA FC’s goalkeeper Tom Ikara also had to makes several saves to keep his team in the game.

The win takes KCCA FC to third place on the group with 6 points, while Egypt’s Al Ahly who beat Esperance on Friday top the group with 10 points and Esperance are second. Township Rollers FC are bottom of the group with 3 points.

“I am happy with the result today and the boys have worked hard to win the game. We did not go to the group stage to be passengers but we have showed that we can play good football. The sky is the limit with these young lads,” KCCA FC coach Mike Hillary Mutebi told Xinhua after the game.

The Township Rollers FC stand-in coach said that his team had tried to play well against KCCA FC, but were punished by one mistake. “The home side took their chance and won,” added Motang.

KCCA FC will play their last game away to Al Ahly in Egypt on August 28th. Al Ahly and Esperance have already qualified for the quarter finals of the lucrative competition.
