JAKARTA, Aug. 19 (Xinhua) -- A shallow under-land quake measuring 6.5 on the Richter scale rocked Lombok Island in central Indonesia on Sunday.

The earthquake did not trigger a potential for tsunami, official of meteorology and geophysics agency Pambagiao told Xinhua over phone.

The quake jolted at 11:10 a.m. Jakarta time (0410 GMT) with epicenter at 32 km East Lombok of West Nusa Tenggara province in western parts of the island and a shallow of 10 km under-earth, official in charge at the agency Pambagiao disclosed.

"This is a new quake, and the tremblor was felt strong, notwithstanding we did not issue a warning for tsunami," he told Xinhua over phone.

In the matter of minutes, the official said at least four aftershock with small scale have followed the main shock.

On Aug. 5, Lombok Island was rattled by a 7.0 magnitude quake after another 6.4 Richter scale jolted the island a week earlier, both of which left over 460 people dead and massive infrastructures damages.

Indonesia has frequently stricken by quake for its vulnerable position in a quake-affected areas so called "the Pacific Ring of Fire."
