LUSAKA, Aug. 19 (Xinhua) -- Zambian President Edgar Lungu on Sunday described the late United Nations (UN) Secretary General Kofi Annan as an enduring force of good whose noble intentions helped the world to become a better place for all.

In his message of condolences to Annan's family and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, the Zambian leader said Annan steered the global body with great tact, competence and with the noblest of intentions.

"When the world faced the real and imminent danger of a descent into unilateralism that threatened the very foundations of the global peace and security humanity has enjoyed since the end of the Second World War, Mr. Annan deployed his impeccable diplomatic skills to bring all nations together," he said.

The Zambian leader commended Annan, who died on Saturday at the age of 80, for presiding over some of the UN's most successful moments such as the agreement on the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
