YANGON, Aug. 20 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar authorities seized 4 billion kyats (2.75 million U.S. dollars) worth of narcotic drugs in northernmost Shan state in the past five days, the Office of the Commander-in-Chief of the Defense Services said Monday.

The seizure was made in Ma Bein and Moe Myeik townships on Aug. 14-19 when the military launched security operation in the areas.

About 6.97 kg of heroin and 2.2 million stimulant tablets were confiscated during the operation, the office said in a statement.

Meanwhile, Myanmar authorities also seized 12.6 billion kyats (8.3 million U.S. dollars) worth of narcotic drugs in western Rakhine state in the past three months, a release of the government's Information Committee said earlier.

From May 2 to Aug. 13, authorities exposed 94 drug cases, apprehended 132 drug traffickers and seized 4.2 million stimulant tablets, 3.5 grams of stimulant powder, 13.8 kilos of marijuana and other illicit drugs in the state.

The government has opened 26 drug addict treatment centers in the country with some 47 sub-centers as well as some 51 Methadone clinics established in high-drug-use townships providing replacement therapy.
