LONDON, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) -- A British woman has got her purse back 18 years after it had been stolen, local media reported Monday.

Joanne Beaven, 39, found her credit cards and driver's license still inside the purse, which was delivered to her by a local police officer in Cambridgeshire.

She was even more surprised that a photo of Eric Cantona, a Manchester United football legend and her idol, was also still in it.

The cash that had been inside was unsurprisingly gone.

The wet and muddy purse was posted through the police station's letterbox on Sunday, according to the Daily Express.

"I went to the postbox ... and there was a plastic bag with the wallet inside," said police community support officer (PCSO) Phil Davis.

There was a driver's license in there with an address, "so I went around to see if the owner was still there," said Davis.

Beaven lost the purse when her handbag was stolen from a hotel in St. Ives in Cambridgeshire in 2000. The bag was found a week later, but there was no sign of the purse.

"Thank you to whoever took the time to take it to the police station, and to the lovely policeman for delivering it to my mum's house," Beaven said on Facebook.
