CAPE TOWN, Aug. 24 (Xinhua) -- The South African government on Friday urged political parties in Zimbabwe to accept a ruling by the country's Constitutional Court that validates the July 30 election result.

All those involved in the court case, in particular the applicants and the respondents, should accept the decision of the court, the South African Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO) said in a statement.

Earlier on Friday, Zimbabwe's Constitutional Court dismissed an application by opposition leader Nelson Chamisa seeking to set aside the result of the election won by President Emmerson Mnangagwa, paving the way for Mnangagwa to be inaugurated on Sunday in accordance with the law.

It is important for all parties in Zimbabwe to go forward and work toward lasting peace, unity and prosperity in the country, DIRCO spokesperson Khusela Diko said.

After the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) declared Mnangagwa winner in the election with a revised 50.67 percent of the vote against nearest rival Chamisa's 44.3 percent on Aug. 2, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa congratulated Mnangagwa and promised to work with the new Zimbabwean government.

South Africa is ready to work with Zimbabwe in the pursuit of closer political, cultural, economic and trade ties, Ramaphosa said.
