BANGKOK, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) -- Thailand's southern coastal province of Phang Nga has been declared a zone of disaster over torrential rains.

Phang Nga provincial governor Sitthichai Sakda said on Saturday that the southern province on the coast of the Andaman Sea, about 760 km south of Bangkok, has been declared the zone of disaster caused by heavy downpours in the last few days.

All seven districts ashore have been considerably damaged by flashfloods and mudslide.

Only the coastal province's island district Koh Yao has been spared the natural disaster so far, according to the provincial governor.

Authorities have scrambled to provide relief and evacuate flood victims in low-lying areas, he said.

Phang Nga's neighboring southern provinces such as Ranong, Phuket and Krabi have been put on alert for similar disasters likely caused by heavy rain during the current monsoon season.
