French households confidence stable in August: Insee

PARIS, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) -- At the end of August, French consumers sentiment about the country's financial and economic performance remained unchanged for the third consecutive month, official figures showed on Tuesday.

The consumer confidence index was unchanged at 97 points over the period, but it remained below its long term average, French statistics institute Insee said.

Households' sentiment about their future personal financial situation was unchanged at minus 11 points from July with the share of those considered opportune to make major purchases was also stable.

However, they have been more optimistic about the economy in the coming months as the corresponding index gained three points, it added.

In August, people showed more pessimism about unemployment of which the indicator rose by nine points, reaching its highest level since November 2016.

France, Europe's second largest economy, is struggling to quicken growth and reach healthy finances to digest millions of job demands in the country of 66 million people.
