WASHINGTON, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) -- Visiting FIFA President Gianni Infantino met with U.S. President Donald Trump in the Oval Office here on Tuesday to discuss the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which the United States will host alongside Canada and Mexico.

Infantino expects the 2026 FIFA World Cup to be the biggest sporting event in the world.

During the FIFA Congress in Moscow on June 13, the joint bid of the United States, Canada and Mexico beat its only challenger Morocco by a vote of 134 to 65.

It will be the first time the World Cup is hosted by three countries, the first time it has a 48-team format (up from 32 teams). Of the tournament's 80 matches, 10 will be in Canada, 10 in Mexico and 60 in the United States - including every match from the quarterfinals to the final.
