RABAT, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) -- Morocco and Cuba on Tuesday formally normalized their bilateral ties after decades of diplomatic spats, said the Moroccan Foreign Ministry.

The ministry said in a statement that the new Cuban ambassador Elio Eduardo Rodriguez Perdomo on Tuesday handed the Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita a copy of his credentials as Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of his country to Morocco.

It said the meeting between the two officials reflected "a new dynamic" in diplomatic relations between Rabat and Havana, and ends 37 years of rupture.

The meeting also showed the shared will to develop bilateral cooperation and strengthen relations of friendship and mutual respect, the statement added.

Morocco's ambassador Boughaleb El Attar presented his credentials as Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Morocco to Cuba on June 29.

In April 2017, Morocco and Cuba signed a joint statement on the re-establishment of the relations at the level of ambassadors at the United Nations, only a week after Morocco's King Mohammed VI paid a private visit to Cuba.
