RABAT, Aug. 30 (Xinhua) -- The Moroccan Prime Minister Saad Eddine El Othmani categorically denied Thursday rumors on cholera outbreak in the country, after it has spread in neighboring Algeria.
Speaking at the cabinet meeting, El Othmani deplored the spread of rumors and attempts to stir panic and fear among citizens, noting that erroneous information on an alert issued by the Health Ministry on the consumption of tap water or certain foods is "unfounded".
He reassured all citizens that "the epidemiological situation in the north African kingdom is healthy" and that there was no danger of transmission of this disease.
The prime minister underlined that vigilance's level has been raised among the health executives and the various departments concerned, adding that if any case is detected, the degree of health intervention will increase and the citizens will be informed.
An official statement was issued earlier this week by the Health Ministry that no case of cholera has been recorded in the kingdom.
The Health Ministry, in coordination with the Regional Office of the World Health Organization (WHO), has taken a series of preventive and proactive measures to protect Morocco's borders and preserve the health of citizens, he pointed out.
