5.1-magnitude earthquake jolts central Greece, no injuries

ATHENS, Aug. 31 (Xinhua) -- An earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale jolted central Greece on Friday, according to the Euro Mediterranean Seismological Center.

The epicenter was located near the city of Karditsa, about 200 km northwest of Athens, Efthymios Lekkas, president of Greece's Earthquake Planning and Protection Organization, told Greek national news agency AMNA.

Local research departments said the earthquake occurred at 10:12 a.m. local time (0812 GMT).

The quake was also felt in the central Greek cities like Trikala and Larissa.

No injuries or major material damage have been reported so far, local authorities said.
