MADRID, Sept. 1 (Xinhua) -- Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez returned to Madrid from his tour of South America on Saturday, expressing his satisfaction with the visit.

Sanchez visited Chile, Bolivia, Colombia and Costa Rica and gave his impressions of his journey to journalists accompanying him on the flight back to Spain.

The Spanish media reported he highlighted the need for Spain to have a greater presence in nations which have not been visited by a Spanish prime minister in over a decade, as was the case of Bolivia which had not received an official visit in the previous 20 years

He added that it was important for Spain to change the focus of its visits, not just aiming to strengthen economic ties, but also to collaborate in environmental policies and on issues of human rights and gender equality.

Spanish media reported that Sanchez had a concrete agenda, adjusted to the particular interests of each of the four countries he visited. This had the aim of strengthening the bilateral dimension of Spain's relationship with each nation.

To this end, his talks in Chile focused on economic relations, while development issues had a high priority in Bolivia, the peace process being most important in Colombia, while environmental issues and immigration were to the fore in his talks with Costa Rican leader.
