PHNOM PENH, Sept. 12 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia's biggest annual construction exhibition kicked off here on Wednesday, with the aim of further developing the booming construction sector.
Held at the Diamond Island Exhibition Center, the three-day event brought together more than 350 international companies from 23 countries and regions, displaying a variety of the latest smart technology and products, said Andrew Siow, director of AMB Tarsus Events Group, which organized the exhibition.
"This exhibition offers an opportunity for visitors to see many new innovations and meet many experts from overseas to discuss their needs," he said in his opening speech.
"More importantly, it also serves as a business platform for Cambodian business people to forge new business cooperation with the many overseas manufacturers looking for partners in the kingdom," he added.
Pheoung Sophean, secretary of state of the Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction, said Cambodia's construction sector had undergone tremendous growth and development in recent years and projected that the growth would gather pace in coming years thanks to investors' confidence in the country's peace and political stability.
He highlighted that the Southeast Asian country would adopt the "smart city" concept for the future development.
"The exhibition will showcase the latest security, building automation, renewable energy and intelligent air conditioning systems that will be applicable in the design of smart city," he said.
According to government figures, Cambodia's construction sector had attracted 1,643 projects with a total investment of 2.15 billion U.S. dollars in the first six months of 2018.
Construction is one of the four pillars supporting Cambodia's economy. Top investors in the kingdom's construction and real estate are China, South Korea, and Japan.
