SEOUL, Sept. 13 (Xinhua) -- South Korean President Moon Jae-in's approval rating rebounded this week ahead of a summit with top leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) Kim Jong Un next week, a weekly poll showed Thursday.

According to the Realmeter survey, support for Moon rose 0.2 percentage points from a week earlier to 53.7 percent this week. It was the first turnaround in six weeks.

The result was based on a poll of 1,502 voters conducted from Monday to Wednesday. It had 2.5 percentage points in margin of error with a 95 percent confidence level.

The rebound came as Moon's special envoys met last week with the DPRK leader in Pyongyang, setting the date of the third Moon-Kim summit from Sept. 18-20.

It boosted expectations for the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and the settlement of lasting peace, leading to higher support scores for the South Korean leader.

Support for Moon's ruling Democratic Party added 0.3 percentage points over the week to 40.7 percent this week.

The main conservative opposition Liberty Korea Party won 19.7 percent of support, trailed by the minor progressive Justice Party earning 10.8 percent of approval scores.

The minor conservative Bareun Future Party garnered 6.8 percent of support, and the center-left Party for Democracy and Peace earned 2.1 percent.
