ATHENS, Sept. 13 (Xinhua) -- Three tourists were slightly injured during a rock slide at a popular beach on the island of Zakynthos in western Greece on Thursday, Greek news agency AMNA reported.
Greek Coast Guard vessels and local Fire Service emergency teams were searching the area for any missing persons, as the injured were transferred to a nearby hospital.
The incident occurred at the iconic Navagio (shipwreck) beach where the rusty wreck of a freighter vessel which ran aground in 1980 still rests on site.
Eye witnesses told AMNA that there were three private boats with visitors at the area during the incident and a countdown was underway to determine whether anyone was missing.
"We heard a sound and a small part of the rock fell, then a second one, and finally a third and large piece dropped in the sea, creating turbulence that overturned the boats," a witness told AMNA.
