BANGKOK, Sept. 18 (Xinhua) -- A record haul of 10 million tablets of methamphetamine was seized in northern Thailand on Sunday, said a deputy police chief on Tuesday.

Police seized the 10 million speed pills from a pickup truck on a road in Sukhothai province, about 427 kilometers north of Bangkok, alongside 37 kilograms of heroin, said Deputy Police Commissioner General Pol. Gen. Chalermkiat Srivorakan.

Four suspected drug traffickers, one male and three females, were arrested at the scene. The suspects, all being natives of Phop Phra district of Tak province, were identified as Prawit Sae Ma, 67, Ying Sae Ma, 54, Kue Sae Ma, 49, and Napha Kitphanichsakul, 33.

The speed pills and heroin had been meant for delivery to an unknown person in Ayutthaya province, about 80 kilometers north of Bangkok, the deputy police chief said.

The drugs would have cost more than two billion baht (about 62 million U.S. dollars) if traded in a blackmarket.
