TRIPOLI, Sept. 19 (Xinhua) -- UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) on Tuesday condemned the renewed clashes in Libyan capital Tripoli, urging warring parties to commit to the ceasefire agreement.
"UNSMIL condemns the renewal of fighting in Tripoli and calls on all parties to adhere to the ceasefire agreement," UNSMIL said in a statement later on Tuesday.
"UNSMIL stresses that it won't be possible to proceed with the reform process while violence continues and Tripoli residents, who come from all over Libya, are paying a heavy price," the statement added.
Clashes erupted again in southern Tripoli Tuesday morning, causing a power blackout in the south and west of the country, according to a security source with the Libyan Interior Ministry.
Witnesses said that heavy explosions and gun firing could be heard in different parts of the city, forcing many families to flee their homes.
The UN political mission in Libya has recently brokered a ceasefire agreement between the warring parties in Tripoli, ending heavy clashes that have killed 78 people and injured 210 others.
Tripoli recently witnessed violent clashes between government forces and the so-called "Seventh Brigade" militia from the city of Tarhuna, some 80 km southeast of Tripoli.
