BERLIN, Sept. 19 (Xinhua) -- A journalist died on Wednesday after falling from a suspension bridge in Germany's western forest area of Hambach.

The pressman fell from the hanging bridge between two trees at a 15-meter height and was seriously injured. He was flown by a rescue helicopter to nearby hospital and died after, according to local media Westdeutscher Rundfunk.

His personal details were not disclosed.

The incident happened in a dense forest area where environmentalists had for many years built tree houses to protest against local coal mining and lumbering.

A large-scale police operation was conducted to clear the tree houses in recent days, citing lack of fire prevention and security measures as the reason.

However, some activists refused to leave and some had come to a standoff with the police.
