MANILA, Sept. 20 (Xinhua) -- At least two died, including a woman in her 60s, in a landslide that destroyed at least dozens of houses in Naga City in the central Philippine Cebu province Thursday, authorities said.

Authorities and witnesses said the landslide occurred shortly before 6 a.m. local time and destroyed houses in the villages of Naalad and Tinaan.

Initial new reports said at least 10 houses were buried, while the police said the number of damaged row houses could reach up to 35.

Local media in Cebu posted pictures of policemen searching and rescuing some of the victims.

Initial investigation showed that it rained all night in the villages, causing the soil to loosen.
