ULAN BATOR, Sept. 20 (Xinhua) -- Winter has come earlier to Mongolia with a sudden drop in temperature and the first snow hitting large parts of the country.

Strong winds and snow from late Wednesday in large parts of Mongolia, including western, northern and central parts of the country, caused the temperature to drop to minus four degrees Celsius, the National Agency for Meteorology and Environmental Monitoring said in a statement on Thursday.

The meteorological department forecast strong winds and snow would remain active across large parts of the country until the next week, urging citizens to take extra precautions against expected disasters.

The Mongolian National State Emergency Committee temporarily restricted traffic on roads linking the capital with western provinces due to slippery road conditions and poor visibility.

The committee has warned drivers not to travel to the countryside unless "absolutely necessary."
