BUDAPEST, Sept. 23 (Xinhua) -- Hungary's competitiveness is fundamentally determined by the innovation capability, Adam Szigeti, Deputy State Secretary at the Ministry of Innovation and Technology said at the inauguration of a science fair entitled STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Science Capital here on Sunday.
"Today we are witnessing that global megatrends, such as the technological development, also known as digitization, determines our daily lives to a great extent," Szigeti said in his speech.
Szigeti emphasized that the current science policy strategy, which will set goals and tasks for the period between 2021-2030, had two main goals: Hungary become the winner of digitalization, and the transformation of global competitiveness and in particular, Hungarian small and medium-sized enterprises as well as the Hungarian people should get the most out of this process.
Deputy Budapest Mayor Alexandra Szalay-Bobrovniczky said the universities, companies and research institutes participating in the event were here to show what the future would look like, and what innovations would determine the lives of people in the forthcoming years and decades.
"For Budapest, these actors, innovations, along with the smart developments and services are important because creating a city that provides the best possible quality of life for its residents is our objective," she added.
The organizer of the science fair, Marcell Bartok, declared that one of the most important raw materials of Hungary was the brains of the new, growing generations. "The purpose of such events was to attract young people's interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics."
At Sunday's event, besides the scientific lectures, more than forty exhibitors were waiting for visitors who can meet with humanoid robots, take on an international drone contest, enter the meteorite exhibition, try out a radiation suit and a real moon-rover.
