LONDON, Sept. 24 (Xinhua) -- Graduates from Oxford and Cambridge universities are beaten by students leaving Imperial College and King's College London in terms of average earning, a job market report said Monday.
Graduates from Imperial College London pick up the highest salaries in the first year after graduation, earning around a fifth more than students leaving Oxford and Cambridge, according to research by the job search website Adzuna.
Average Imperial graduate earns 37,931 pounds in first year, which is 5,000 pounds (more than the typical Oxbridge (Oxford and Cambridge) graduate, the report found.
The Guardian newspaper said the Imperial College has long jostled with Oxford and Cambridge at the top of the university academic league, with its specialization in medical, engineering and technological subjects likely to explain its graduates' higher earning power.
King's College London ranks number two on the Top 10 most valuable UK universities ranking by Adzuna, despite the university ranking being a relatively low 58th position in the Guardian's 2019 league tables.
Andrew Hunter, co-founder of Adzuna, said: "Students concerned with getting the best bang for their buck should look outside the traditional league tables and should not automatically assume Oxbridge to be best."

All the top 10 universities for graduate earnings were in the Russell Group of universities, a membership-based association of 24 public research universities in the UK.
The Adzuna research is based on an analysis of 155,000 graduate Curriculum Vitaes (CVs) posted on its site, detailing the average salary these graduates make in their first year after graduation. It also supplies labor market data to the Office of National Statistics.
