KATHMANDU, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) -- The upgrading and renovation of the Civil Service Hospital, which was constructed by the Chinese government in 2008, commenced in Nepal under the China-Aid program on Wednesday.
Amid a special function organized in the hospital in Kathmandu, Nepali Minister for Federal Affairs and General Administration Lalbabu Pandit and Chinese Ambassador Yu Hong jointly commenced the project.
The Chinese government will be constructing a full-fledged three-storey building, known as Surgical Ward with 120 beds along with installation of all the necessary equipments. Also, the existing three buildings of the Civil Service Hospital, which are 10 years old, will be renovated.
Addressing the commencement ceremony, Minister Pandit said that the project will contribute to providing quality health service to the general public.
"I am hopeful that with the China-Aid, we can provide easy access and quality health service to more Nepali people," the minister said, adding that the hospital's treatment and management is exemplary across the country.
Stating that the hospital has been able to win the trust of public in short period, the minister said he himself has been receiving health service from the hospital.
He also took the occasion to share that Nepal plans to develop the Civil Service Hospital as a medical college and postgraduate institute in future, with a special focus on international standards.
On the occasion, Chinese Ambassador Yu said China will continue to support Nepal's health sector and will help achieve the motto of "Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepali."
The ambassador also informed that besides the assistance to the hospital, the Chinese government will continue in extending support to National Ayurveda Research and Training Center and BP Koirala Memorial Cancer Hospital.
She further informed that two other hospitals will also be built under the Chinese assistance in Sindhupalchowk and Manang districts.
According to the Civil Service Hospital, over 1,000 people are receiving high-quality and affordable health services from the hospital every day.
