TOKYO, Sept. 27 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened lower Thursday as the benchmark Nikkei stock index's eight-day winning streak prompted investors to take profits.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 70.37 points, or 0.29 percent, from Wednesday to 23,963.42.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, fell 5.20 points, or 0.29 percent, at 1,816.47.

Nonferrous metal, mining and bank-oriented issues comprised those that declined the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
