BUJUMBURA, Sept. 27 (Xinhua) -- A Burundian rebel group member was arrested in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) last week, admitting leading an attack in May in northwestern Burundi, a spokesman of the Burundian security ministry said here on Thursday.

At least 26 persons were killed and eight others seriously injured in a gunmen attack on May 12 at a village in the province of Cibitoke.

Dismas Ndayisaba was arrested in Luvungi village, South Kivu province, by Congo security forces, who was then handed over to the Burundian authorities, said spokesman Pierre Nkurikiye at a press briefing.

The 28-year-old born in northern Burundi's Kayanza province admitted to leading a team that perpetrated the attack as rebels of Resistance for the Rule of Law in Burundi (RED-Tabara) led by Burundian politician Alexis Sinduhije, said Nkurikiye.

Ndayisaba also said the rebel group is also responsible for the attack against a bank near the Gatumba border post in the district of Mutimbuzi in Bujumbura province, western Burundi, on Sept. 14.
