Uganda receives new Chinese medical team

KAMPALA, Sept. 30 (Xinhua) -- A new Chinese medical team has arrived in Uganda where it will provide health care for the next one year.

Speaking at the welcome reception held on Sunday at the Chinese embassy, Charles Olaro, Director General of health services at the ministry of health said the outgoing team has been critical in extending health care to the Ugandan population.

He welcomed the new team, promising them continued cooperation from the Ugandan side.

Zheng Zhuqiang, Chinese ambassador to Uganda said Chinese medical teams have brought high level medical treatment technology and also traditional Chinese medical methods like acupuncture.

"Their exquisite medical skills have earned the trust and respect of Ugandan people and government," Zheng said.

The reception was also attended by among others staff of the China-Uganda Friendship Hospital.

The new team is the 19th Chinese medical team to work in Uganda relieving the 18th team, which has just completed its tour of duty.

China has been sending medical teams to Uganda since 1983.

Besides sending teams, China has also donated a hospital, medicine and medical equipment to Uganda over the years.
