SYDNEY, Oct. 2 (Xinhua) -- Two bomb threats have forced the evacuation of a hospital in Australian city of Melbourne on Tuesday, with authorities moving about 60 patients to a nearby park.

Patients and staff were evacuated from the Epworth Hawthorn following two telephone calls made to the hospital shortly after 08:00 local time, and an exclusion zone was established.

Despite initial fears, a spokesperson for Victoria Police told Xinhua that officers had conducted safety checks and declared the area safe.

"Police have conducted safety checks at a medical facility on Burwood Road, Hawthorn," the spokesperson said.

"The area has been deemed safe and all occupants are able to return inside."

Transport services were also disrupted including the nearby Hawthorn train station and the public were advised to avoid the area.

"The matter is being treated as a hoax phone call and is under investigation," the spokesperson said.
