YAOUNDE, Oct. 2 (Xinhua) -- The president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Ahmad Ahmad, arrived in Cameroon early Tuesday where he will meet with president Paul Biya to discuss about Cameroon's hosting rights of Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon), officials of the ministry of sports and physical education said Tuesday.

Ahmad was accompanied by his vice president, Constant Omari Selemani, and Cameroon's football icon Samuel Eto'o.

Afcon 2019 is scheduled to be hosted by Cameroon but last week, CAF raised doubts over Cameroon's ability to host the competition after the Executive Committee of the body decided to put a hold on any decision regarding the hosting until after the presidential election in the country.

CAF has expressed worries in the past about Cameroon's readiness to host the championship citing delay in construction of stadiums and an armed insurgency in progress in the English-speaking regions of the country.

Cameroon's sports ministry said, the Biya-Ahmad meeting could be a game-changer.

Biya "wants to reassure CAF president of Cameroon's capacity and ability to host Afcon as planned", a statement by the ministry said.

Afcon 2019 will be held from June 15 to July 13 according to CAF. It will also be the first Africa Cup of Nations expanded from 16 to 24 teams.
