CANBERRA, Oct. 3 (Xinhua) -- A giant saltwater crocodile has been filmed hunting its freshwater brethren in Australia's Northern Territory (NT).

The video, published by News Corp Australia on Wednesday, shows the smaller freshwater crocodile stuck but still alive in the jaws of the saltwater crocodile.

The freshwater crocodile, which are commonly known as "freshies," barely put up a fight before being dragged to its death in muddy water on the Daly River, a popular Outback fishing spot.

Wendy Higgs filmed the encounter while on a fishing tour in September.

"On the way home, as we were coming back, I saw there was a crocodile with a crocodile in its mouth and so we turned around and kind of went up to it," she told News Corp.

"It was sitting on the bank and I started videotaping it. I saw it take it into the water and death roll it. It was still alive in its mouth. Then he was gone, it was just a big swirl of water and mud.

"I didn't catch any fish that day but it was certainly good to catch that on film. It is a once in a lifetime opportunity."

Although freshwater crocodiles can tolerate salt water they often avoid it because of the aggressive nature of their saltwater relatives.
