HAVANA, Oct. 3 (Xinhua) -- Tropical storm Leslie grew in intensity to become a Category 1 hurricane on Wednesday, but currently poses no threat to land, Cuba's meteorological institute Insmet reported.
Leslie grew in intensity Wednesday morning with wind speeds of 120 km per hour and occasional faster gusts, the report said.
At 6 a.m. local time (1000 GMT), Leslie strengthened to around 810 km southeast of the Bermuda Islands in the Caribbean.
Insmet forecasted that Leslie will stay where she is overnight, and may possibly move northward tomorrow, and with greater intensity.
It is currently the hurricane period in the Atlantic and Caribbean Sea. According to experts, the current season is producing around the average number of hurricanes.
