RABAT, Oct. 4 (Xinhua) -- Morocco and Russia agreed on Thursday to boost cooperation in agriculture.

Aziz Akhannouch, Morocco's minister of agriculture, fisheries, rural development, water and forests, and Russian Minister of Agriculture Dmitry Patrushev discussed ways to develop bilateral cooperation in agriculture on the sidelines of the 7th session of the Moroccan-Russian Joint Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation Committee.

Russia attaches great importance to the evolution of the seed market in Morocco, Akhannouch said, adding that Morocco is willing to promote the export of several agricultural products, including vegetables and fruits to Russia.

The two ministers also focused on the means to speed up the implementation of the Green Corridor, a protocol for the exchange of information on the movement of goods and vehicles between Morocco and Russia which was initiated in March 2016, Akhannouch added.

Moroccan authorities said that the Morocco-Russia trade has increased by 10 percent yearly since 2014.

Agricultural products represent 77 percent of Moroccan exports to Russia, which are estimated at 170 million U.S. dollars.
