HANOI, Oct. 5 (Xinhua) -- The world heritage site of Hoi An in Vietnam's central Quang Nam province has been ranked the 14th best place in the world for expatriates to live by a well-known Canadian travel site, while Cuenca in Ecuador topped the list, the Vietnam News Agency reported on Friday.

According to The Travel website, the ancient town of Hoi An is the best destination for budget-conscious foreigners who want to settle down in Vietnam, and monthly living costs can be managed within 1,000 U.S. dollars.

British newspaper The Telegraph has named Hoi An among the world's cheapest global destinations. Meanwhile, CNN has listed Hoi An as one of the 16 best places in the world to relax and de-stress.

Hoi An ranked second on a list of the safest and most exciting places on the Earth for solo travelers compiled by travel editors at UK travel site Momondo.

In 2016, the ancient town was hailed as the cheapest travel destination by budget tourism site Price of Travel, with daily expenses for a backpacker estimated at nearly 22.3 U.S. dollars.
