Indian military aircraft crashes, no loss of life reported

NEW DELHI, Oct. 5 (Xinhua) -- An Indian Air Force (IAF) microlight aircraft crashed Friday in northern state of Uttar Pradesh, officials said.

No loss of life was reported in the crash.

According to officials, the pilots ejected safely well before the crash.

The aircraft crashed in a sugarcane field in Baghpat district, 585 km northwest of Lucknow, the capital city of Uttar Pradesh.

"The two-seater microlight helicopter belonging to IAF crashed here this morning," a police official posted in Bagphat said. "Both pilots on board of the aircraft ejected safely."

The cause of the crash was being ascertained, according to officials.

According to local media, the aircraft on a routine sortie took off from the Hindon airbase in adjacent Ghaziabad district.

Following the crash, locals, police and air force officials rushed to the spot.

On Monday, a helicopter belonging to navy crashed in southern state of Tamil Nadu.
