U.S. military says kills al-Shabab militant in southern Somalia

MOGADISHU, Oct. 9 (Xinhua) -- The United States military said Tuesday its forces conducted an airstrike in southern Somalia on Saturday, killing an al-Shabab militant.

The U.S. Africa Command (Africom) said the airstrike was conducted in the vicinity of Kunyo Barrow.

"We currently assess one (1) terrorist was killed in this airstrike," Africom said of the strike, which was conducted in coordination with the Somali government.

"We currently assess no civilians were injured or killed in this airstrike," Africom said in a press statement.
