Morocco sees crop harvest despite late rain

RABAT, Oct. 9 (Xinhua) -- Morocco saw an overall increase in the 2017-2018 crop year despite late rain, according to the statistics released by the Agriculture Ministry on Tuesday.

Morocco's cereal production reached 10.3 million tons, up 7.3 percent from last crop year, while olives production registered a record 2 million tons, up 72 percent year on year.

Wheat and olive are key commodities in daily life in Morocco.

Meanwhile, sugar crops increased by 3.6 percent to enable the country to meet 46 percent of its needs.

During the 2017-2018 crop year, legumes production increased by 3.4 percent, while citrus grew 17 percent.

Morocco's agricultural exports also increased three percent during the period.
