ISLAMABAD, Oct. 10 (Xinhua) -- U.S. special envoy for Afghanistan Zalmay Khalilzad has wrapped up his visit to Pakistan after consulting Pakistani leaders on how best to "achieve a durable political settlement in Afghanistan," the U.S. embassy in Pakistan said on Wednesday.

Zalmay Khalilzad, Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation, met Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi and held delegation level talks with Foreign Secretary Tehmina Janjua in Islamabad on Tuesday on Afghan reconciliation process, officials and the U.S. embassy said.

"Special Representative Khalilzad reiterated that peace in Afghanistan is vital to the long-term stability of Pakistan and the wider region," a brief statement from the U.S, embassy said.

The U.S. State Department said last week that Khalilzad, leading an interagency delegation, was scheduled to visit Afghanistan, Pakistan, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia on Oct. 4-14.
