MADRID, Oct. 10 (Xinhua) -- Floods killed at least nine people on the Spanish island of Mallorca while another six went missing, local media reported on Wednesday.

Emergency services, including 300 people, eight cars, a boat, three helicopter, are working on the areas affected to look for the missing.

Heavy rain and flash floods hit for around two hours on Tuesday night the main island of the archipelago of the Balearic Islands, especially the town of Sant Llorenc, and several other towns.

Torrents of water swept cars and homes, which made more than 100 people have to be evacuated and spend the night in sports centers.

"My solidarity and support goes out with the families and friends of victims and all those affected by these tragic floods," Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said on his twitter account.

Sanchez, who traveled to Mallorca, told reporters that the government will work to help and make all citizens go back to normality.
