TOKYO, Oct. 11 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks expanded losses Thursday morning, with the benchmark Nikkei stock index plummeting almost 4 percent following an overnight equities rout in Europe and the United States owing to rising long-term U.S. Treasury yields.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average tumbled 914.94 points, or 3.89 percent, from Wednesday to 22,591.10.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, plummeted 62.05 points, or 3.52 percent, at 1,701.81.

All industry categories on the main section retreated into negative territory, with mining, oil and coal product, and electric appliance-linked issues comprising those that declined the most by the morning break.
