KABUL, Oct. 11 (Xinhua) -- At least three Taliban militants have been killed after Afghan Special Operations Forces launched an airstrike in the country's eastern province of Paktia, command of special forces said Thursday.

"The strike was conducted in Jaji district of Paktia province on Wednesday as an intelligence tip-off confirmed militants' activities in the area. A militants' vehicle and a motorcycle were also destroyed," Afghan National Army Special Operations Corps said in a statement.

No civilian was hurt following the strike in the mountainous district.

Afghan security forces, backed by the U.S.-led NATO coalition troops, have increased ground and air offensives against the militants in the past few months as the country is preparing for parliamentary and district councils elections slated on Oct. 20.

The militant group has yet to make comments on the report.
