MADRID, Oct. 11 (Xinhua) -- Emergency services have found two more people killed, brining the death toll killed by floods on the island of Mallorca in eastern Spain to 12, the government of the Balearic Islands confirmed on Thursday.

At least one 5-year-old child is still missing, but authorities do not rule out that the number of people missing may increase.

Around 900 people are searching for people or helping rebuild the area after the floods, including members of the Spanish Civil Guard, the Spanish army, and other emergency services as well as volunteers, including famous tennis player Rafael Nadal, who is from Mallorca.

Heavy rain and flash floods hit the east of the island on Tuesday evening, swatting cars, homes and forcing people to be evacuated.

One of the most affected towns was Sant Llorenc with 8,000 inhabitants, who were facing around 220 liters of water per square meter in a few hours.

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez traveled to Mallorca, and assured that the government would help those affected by the floods.
