TOKYO, Oct. 12 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks retreated Friday morning as investor sentiment was soured by another selloff on Wall Street overnight due to concerns about rising interest rates, with European shares' losses adding to a circumspect mood.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 102.00 points, or 0.45 percent, from Thursday to 22,488.86.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 9.43 points, or 0.55 percent, at 1,692.43.

Insurance, land transportation and electric power and gas-linked issues comprised those that declined the most by the morning break.
