Taliban bomb blast kills 13 in N. Afghanistan

MAIMANA, Afghanistan, Oct. 12 (Xinhua) -- A total of 13 people including four civilians and nine insurgents were killed as a mine carried by Taliban fighters went off accidentally in the northern Faryab province, a police spokesman in the northern region said Friday.

The deadly blast, according to Sayed Sarwar Hussaini, happened in Namusi area of Pashtunkot district when the Taliban militants were carrying the explosive device to plant on a road to target security personnel, killing nine insurgents and four civilians at nearby on the spot.

Three more militants sustained injuries in the blast on Thursday evening, the official asserted.

Taliban militants who have been attempting to overrun Faryab provincial capital Maimana haven't commented on the report.
